can you help save a life?

There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.

as many of you know, last year i was asked if i would volunteer my time teaching yoga at Warrior Camp®.  that simple reply of "sure, why not?!" has changed my life.  here we are 3 WarriorCamps® and 15 months later, I am now a board member for TRR (Trauma and Resiliency Resources) the parent organization of Warrior Camp®

Eva, wearing a red shirt in the picture, created TRR in 2004 as a result of working with First Responders in NYC post-9/11.  TRR was granted non-profit status in 2006. Many First Responders are/were Veterans. This led Eva to Fort Drum, NY where she began working with veterans in their struggle with suicide. long story short, Warrior Camp® was created for this purpose, helping end military suicide. roughly 17 veterans commit suicide every day!

currently, we rely on both an equine therapy center and the conference center to close their businesses and rent their spaces at a discounted to Warrior Camp®. even with their generous offering, Warrior Camp® can only be offered 2 times a year.  that's not very helpful when you are struggling with suicide even though our success rate is 99.4%!

TRR recently purchased an old dairy farm in upstate New York.  It's 344 acres: 116 acres are up for sale for funding. This property will be home for all 5 of the modalities which comprise Warrior Camp® (equine therapy, yoga, EMDR, Narrative Medicine, and Native American Healing) plus rooms for staff and warriors to stay, plus an organic farm which will supply the healthy and nutritious food served. we aim to offer Warrior Camp® once a month while offering the farm for use to other military organizations such as the Gary Sinise Foundation and Wounded Warriors Project.

yes! this is a huge undertaking. so, we have joined the Seen Through Horses Campaign, a national fundraising and awareness initiative benefiting TRR's Warrior Camp® and over 75+ other non-profit organizations during Mental Health Awareness Month (May).
